Dear Colleagues,

As the saying goes, movies are a reflection of society, culture and history. In addition to its entertainment values, historical movies serve as an effective tool, defying traditional teaching and learning methods. Under the coordination of the School of Marketing & Media (SoMM) and our colleagues teaching the BA (Hons) International Relations programme, the Russian Centre of Science and Culture recently hosted a special screening of a Russian historical film, “28 Panfilov’s Men”.

The film was screened in conjunction of the 74th Anniversary of the Great Victory of Russian troops over the Nazi German soldiers. Through the film, students were able to relive the historical moments – some students even shed tears as they saw the sacrifices made by 25 million Russian soldiers and their citizens in defending their motherland during the conflict.

More than 60 students benefited from the movie screening session, with each and every one of them returned with broadened knowledge of Russian culture and history. Kudos to our colleagues for initiating and coordinating the session!

Thanks and Regards,
